H&O Plastics was established over 25 years ago. From their base in Birkenhead, they manufacture and sell plastic containers to both the trade and the general public.
In 2013, H&O’s Managing Director, Bob Lavender, identified a gap in the market. H&O are the only UK manufacturer of plastic, coloured buckets and his company were receiving enquiries daily about buying small volumes. At this point, Bob commissioned a web designer to create an eCommerce site for his company and the retail site, buybuckets.co.uk, was born.
Since then, H&O Plastics retail website has seen tremendous growth. However, in 2017, there were concerns that online sales were not growing as fast as expected. Bob Lavender asked Ombush Media to evaluate the website to identify SEO and marketing opportunities that could drive sales.
We came on board towards the end of 2017 and were tasked with using SEO and digital marketing to drive more sales on the retail website. We devised a digital marketing strategy that involved using blog posts and social media to drive more visits and engagement and also conducted a full SEO audit.
Our audit found that around 30% of the pages on the website (including some of H&O’s best selling products) had not been optimised for search and were missing important metadata.
With our initial review completed, we got to work optimising the site and revised the site’s content and structure.
The results of our work were immediately apparent – the retail site experienced an immediate improvement in conversion rates and visitor numbers and online revenues began to increase again.
At this point, H&O Plastics requested that we take over the site completely which we were very pleased to be able to do. With full control of the site, we were able to move H&O’s website to a much faster server which delivered much lower page load speeds. We were also able to make further improvements such as improved conversion analytics and better lead capture.
Since commissioning Ombush Media to build an improved website and review our Digital Marketing, we’ve seen tremendous growth; as of September 2018, visitor numbers are up almost 20% on last year and online revenues have increased by 33%.
